I was at a work event and opened the workbook to the first page. My eyes popped and jaw dropped as I read these wise words….
“It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive…
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul…
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.”
From The Invitation by Oriah
The main trainer for this work event summarized this poem in four words. He explained that at the end of the day (and life) all you have is YOU AND YOUR BELIEFS. That’s it. (4 words) It made me think:
What do I believe? About myself? About those I love? About those I cannot stand or who ruffle my feathers? What do I believe about my health? About my dis-ease? What do I believe about my past? My future?
It’s been a journey for me to dare to dream, to follow my heart’s longing. It’s not always easy for me to look like a fool while pursuing this dream so I can feel ALIVE. I’ve had to disappoint another to be true to myself and beared the accusation of betrayal so not to betray my own soul. That wasn’t fun! It hurt. Hard. But with time, we’ve mended and our lives are richer for it.
Living health soulFULLY is not all rainbows and unicorns. I’m engaging in an intimate dance with Spirit. It’s a FULL surrender. There is no hiding. Resistance only slows me down. The more I surrender my ego-limited self, the more I connect with my Divine self. I let go of fear and hand it over to Spirit. I choose LOVE – which requires me to be vulnerable, susceptible and OPEN. This surrender has become easier than carrying the heavy burden of fear.
So, will you….
Dare to dream?
Risk looking like a fool?
Disappoint another to be true to yourself?
What’ll sustain you is your unshakeable faith – in yourself, in others, and in God.
