Introducing, Selma Blair

by | Nov 1, 2021 | Spirituality

Have you seen the documentary “Introducing, Selma Blair?” I’m a bit biased, as it stars one of my childhood besties, and I’m in it (at her bedside midway through the film – blink, and you’ll miss me! LOL!) The film documents her journey living with MS as a woman, mother, and actress. It’s a film you’ll resonate with deeply if you’ve ever experienced unexplainable symptoms, self-doubt, or gaslighting on your healing journey. As one writer put it so eloquently, “For Blair, an MS diagnosis wasn’t a bad thing. It was an answer and one that would lead the star to take the role of a lifetime: herself.”

Healing is one way of becoming your best self – your true self – your Divine self. The one who heals others just by living curiously, with wonder and vulnerability, and a whole lotta faith. Living with MS, that’s precisely what Selma Blair is doing for millions of others.

Healing is often messy. There are many trials to endure. There are times you just wanna give up, but you keep going (usually for someone you love dearly.) And eventually, there comes a time when your physical body says enough and expires (and the ones who love you dearly find ways to connect and keep you alive.)

If you’re game to truly heal and heal others in the process, keep reading. You’ll discover the message within your health mess, how to release your death grip to unleash your true healing power and become spiritually fit in the process. But, most importantly, you’ll rediscover you don’t need a physically perfect vessel to heal – and either does Selma Blair.

DISCOVER THE MESSAGE WITHIN YOUR HEALTH MESS

If you’ve struggled with health, you’ve likely worked to keep your mindset straight that healing is even possible for you. I know I have. I was newly married, sitting on the stairs leading up to the 2nd floor of our then bungalow home, and incredibly sad. The room at the top of the stairs was for our baby. Except we had no baby. Instead, we had multiple losses – miscarriages – and I felt like a mess.

If you’re fighting to keep your head above water on your healing journey, don’t despair. Discover the message within your health mess. It’ll lighten the load and make you feel a heck of a lot happier as you heal.

RELEASE YOUR DEATH GRIP TO UNLEASH YOUR POWER

I write to heal. Often Divine insights for blog posts come when I’m out of my head and moving my body on the bike with Peloton. During one of those rides, the instructor, Christian Vande Velde, said, “release your death grip,” and went on to explain how squeezing the handlebars is a waste of energy. Your hands don’t push the pedals.

My thought immediately jumped to how some of us put a death grip on dis-ease. First, we analyze it from every possible perspective. Then, try every possible solution presented and still can wind up stuck or physically/emotionally dead. But what if you were able to release your death grip? Would you unleash your true power and somehow heal?

If this sounds like a fun ride, keep reading! I’m excited to share four easy ways for you to tap into your heart smarts and relax into healing. Plus, knowing how to harness the power of your intuition can help you make better decisions in life – which, as you know, often feels chaotic and complex.

BECOME SPIRITUALLY FIT TO HEAL

Pregnant with my oldest, I hit Einstein Bros Bagels drive-thru on my way home from working out and ordered the usual: an everything bagel with strawberry cream cheese. (Side note: By the end of the pregnancy, I ordered two! So that’s some heavy-duty post-workout refueling. LOL!)

Driving home inhaling that yumminess, I was deep in conversation with myself and asked, “WHY am I a doctor, anyway?” I was a year into my solo primary care practice. My question stemmed from my desire to stop primary care (which I never loved) and somehow follow my heart (though I wasn’t sure what it wanted.) The answer to my question scared me. So I let it go, but when my physical health took a nose-dive years later, my spiritual fitness went into high gear. It felt like Spiritual Bootcamp for someone who wasn’t so (eh-hem) spiritually fit. It was intense, but I came through knowing a path for healing, and the answer that initially scared me began to make sense.

Whatever pain, dis-ease, or discomfort you’re carrying, you heal not by trying to control it – forcing into what you feel should be its destiny. Instead, you heal when you see it and release it – to shape you into what your soul desires. Read Becoming Spiritual Fit to Heal.

If you’re game to truly heal, hold onto your hat, sista! A lot is packed into discovering the message within your mess, releasing your death grip, unleashing your true healing power, and becoming spiritually fit to heal. It’s a game of surrender – going with the flow, yo! Which often feels incredibly uncomfortable to the ego who loves control. Who me? Yes, you (and me too.) We so want to control our healing process, and we wanted results yesterday. I mean, who has time for all of this healing stuff anyway?!? So give yourself a lot of grace as you heal, unfold, and become more of who you are. Get your feet wet before you swim, and don’t forget to float.

As you heal, you heal others. Just like Blair and me – you become an angel in someone’s life, and they become an angel in yours. And together, you heal.

Feel Better, Be Better!

P.S. One thing you may not know about Blair is she’s hilarious – her humor heals me. Watch the Introducing, Selma Blair Trailer – 12 seconds in you’ll laugh. But don’t stop there. Watch the film in its entirety on Discovery+ (and while you’re there, binge-watch Fixer Upper! I may or may not have watched every single episode made!) But seriously, Introducing, Selma Blair has already been recognized for its exceptional intimacy in storytelling. You rarely see such vulnerability on screen. Vulnerability heals. Go watch it and heal.
