After delivering three babies and miscarrying four, I crossed the pregnancy finish line and fell flat on my face. I was exhausted. Nagging digestive symptoms plague me for years. Most days, my busted garbage disposal of a gut made me feel rather bah humbug. So I embarked on a ten-year quest to find the one right diet – all healthy options – that brought me energy and digestive ease.

STOP EATING THE WRONG HEALTHY DIET
Have you ever wondered why some people feel alive on a Keto (higher fat) diet, and others seem totally brain-fried eating that way? You can say the same for the Vegan (lower fat) lifestyle – some feel energized while others feel zapped! What gives?
It turns out where you and I genetically differ most is how we process protein, fat, and carbs. Nutrition is best when tailored specifically for you. Think of it as a suit. Take the suit off the rack and put it on. It fits. It’s good. But when it’s tailored specifically for you, it feels good on a whole new level (mm-hmm.) The same thing goes for nutrition!
The biggest mistake you might be making eating healthy is eating the wrong healthy diet. On my ten-year quest to find the right healthy diet for me, I tried so many different ways of eating it became a standing joke amongst friends and family. Most of the ways I ate went by acronyms: GAPS (gut and psychology syndrome) diet, SCD (specific carbohydrate diet), FODMAP (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols) diet. That’s a mouthful! I also tried vegetarian, pescetarian, and Paleo diets.
There’s no one right diet for everyone. I wish there were! That would make life so much easier. Eat this, not that. There, done! But, a diet that supports my health might not benefit yours. I guessed how to eat for ten years based on what worked for others or the latest health trend. In fact, I was just about to try a Keto diet when I discovered I could test my genetics to determine the best diet for me!
TAILOR YOUR DIET TO YOUR GENETICS
THE RESULTS FLOORED ME when I opened up my custom nutrition plan based on my genetic markers and the most recent research in nutrigenomics. I discovered that I’m best suited for a plant-based diet with an overall macronutrient ratio of 70% carbohydrates, 15% protein, and 15% fat. Compare that to a typical ketogenic diet, 70% fat, 20% protein, and 10% carbs!
Now that I’m eating for my genetics (low fat, mostly plant-based), I feel lighter, more energized, and my gut moves with more ease. Hooray! But who cares about me. What about you? What will your nutrition report reveal?
Should you be low-fat or high-fat? Low-carb or high-carb? Are gluten and dairy your friends or foes? How much caffeine is ideal for you (if any at all?) It’s all in your custom nutrition plan based on your genetics! You can even discover your perfect bedtime and work time based on your biological clock. Just like the Prego pasta sauce slogan “It’s in there!” your custom nutrition plan is packed with all the details you need to align your diet and lifestyle with your DNA for vibrant health!
Eating for my genetics fine-tuned my diet to fit me like a well-tailored suit, not something off the rack. Once I stopped guessing what to eat, I fueled my body with the right food for sustained energy and a happier gut. If you’re curious about your genetic diet type, my guess is that you want to feel energized so you can be, do, and give what your heart desires most in life! It’s time to stop guessing and start testing. Unlocking your genetic diet type is a simple 3 step process, and I’ll walk you through each step!
