Taming Menopause: How to Make Peace with Your Body

Breaking news!! My body’s betraying me. This meat sack and I (I’ll call her nicer names when she’s nicer to me. 😀) are in a serious power struggle. And somehow, against all odds, this is one battle I’ve been losing! 😩

As a medical doctor, sure, I know what’s happening. But now that it’s happening to me, all I want to know is – what the #@*% even is menopause?! 😩😀😞πŸ€ͺ😡‍πŸ’«

Is it just me, or is menopause the universe’s prank on women? Seriously, who scripted this part? πŸ˜…

Instead of the peacefully controlled harmony of self I’m used to, menopause feels like friction. Gone are the days of “I get to feel how I want,” replaced by a hostile takeover of conflict, disharmony, and discomfort.

Maybe you, like me, want to negotiate with your ovaries for a more gradual retirement plan? Some dark chocolate may stop sudden resignations, right? This got me thinking...

Change often comes with challenges.

My body is changing. The same guidelines for psychological transformation apply to physiological transformation.

So, I slowed down. Maybe my hormones feel out of control, but I could still make choices about life, so I…

β₯ Stopped procrastinating and completed the hormone testing my doctor ordered months ago.

β₯ Scheduled an appointment to review the results so we can adjust hormone replacement therapy as needed.

β₯ Accepted support from experts and Mamas who’ve faced the rough waters of perimenopause and found peace in their transformed bodies.

β₯ Shared my feels 😩😀😞πŸ€ͺ😡‍πŸ’« with family, friends, and colleagues.

β₯ Asked myself an essential question: What must you believe to feel this badly about menopause, Sue?

I got an enlightening answer. Likely, the same answer many Mamas receive when feeling challenged by change:

That what you’re going through isn’t right, necessary, or needed now. That this thing called menopause/change/how could the basement flood again – is happening to you and not for you. But of course:

The truth is that life – challenge, change – is happening for you, Mama.

Here are some fun and playful tips for shifting your perspective, breaking free from the body’s “betrayals,” and navigating the wild waves of menopause to calmer waters.

How to Make Peace with Your Body during Menopause

β₯

Listen to Your Body: Your body is sending signals. Tune in, listen, and respond with kindness. πŸ₯°

β₯ Reframe Your Mindset: Feeling out of control? Think this will last forever? Flip the script! Menopause is a natural transition that opens new doors. Remember, every woman goes through this. Life (and menopause) is happening for you, not to you. πŸ₯Ή

β₯ Get Help from a Pro: Seek advice and support from medical professionals. Hormone testing can clarify what’s happening inside, and understanding that part alone can make a huge difference in how you feel on a daily basis. πŸ˜ƒ

β₯ Find Your Tribe: Connect with others on the same journey. Sharing experiences is validating and comforting. Plus, you can make friends who totally get it and even get insider tips on what works and what's not worth it. πŸ‘―‍♀️ (See P.S.!)

β₯ Express Yourself: Ride those emotional rollercoasters with grace. Create playlists for every mood; dance it out, cry it out, or sing along. Your living room is your stage! πŸŽ€πŸ’ƒ

β₯ Pamper Yourself: Treat yourself with high doses of self-love. Do what soothes your soul, whether it’s a relaxing bath, a good book, or a nature walk. You're worth it, Mama! πŸ›πŸ’…

β₯ Sleep Like a Queen: Prioritize sleep and relaxation. Invest in comfy bedding, weighted blankets, silk pillowcases, and lavender scents. Make your bed feel like a cloud where you can float away into dreamland. πŸŒ™πŸ˜΄

β₯ Nourish and Move: Fuel your body with fabulous foods — colorful salads, delicious smoothies, and dark chocolate. Move your body in ways you love and make it part of your routine (Tuesday Tango, anyone?! πŸ’‹πŸ’ƒ)

β₯ Laugh It Off: Find humor in the chaos. Watch comedies, read funny books, or call that friend who always makes you laugh. Laughter is the best medicine, especially when it feels like your body’s playing tricks on you. πŸ˜‚

Remember, Mama, you’re not losing your mind or your mojo; you’re just remodeling!

You’ve got this! 🩡
